Meet Mrs. Lauricella: I grew up in North Branford, CT and visited Guilford often while growing up. Some of my favorite memories are visiting The Place to eat outside and sit on tree stumps (even though I would bring my own McDonald’s Happy Meal because I didn’t like lobster!), Guilford Soccer Fest, and even Baldwin’s upper fields where I coached at a soccer camp.

Math Madness!
So you're starting fifth grade math! Some of you are excited, some can't wait, and others may be nervous...don't be! My goal is to support you throughout the entire year, as you learn, challenge yourself, and explore the wild world of fifth grade math. I expect you to always try your best, stay focused, and keep a positive attitude.
We'll start the school year with some benchmark assessments so I can get an idea of your current skills. The basic math facts are something that will be so important this year. These are your facts 0-12 in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. EVERYTHING we do in math builds upon these, whether it be geometry, fractions, measurement, and more. I will be providing you with websites and strategies to practice at home. We will have a graded math fact assessment once per quarter to ensure you're up to speed and/or improving on your pace with these facts.
Also, our first few units of the year are multi-digit addition, subtraction and multiplication. You should have some background with these from fourth grade. Don't worry, though, we will review and practice! Since each math class will go by so quickly, there will be a bit of math homework sent home almost every night. This is to continue to practice these skills at home. To be clear, homework is NEVER graded...but we do expect that you do it. There are consequences if you choose not to, but we'll discuss this further after you've adjusted during the first few weeks of school.
As we begin to get underway with math this year, I want to make it really clear that I'm here for you whenever you need help! Let me know, and we can schedule time during your study hall, at the end of class, or even during lunch! (Don't worry, we'll eat too!). It's super important, however, that you let me know when you need help. Often times, you'll know sooner than I will (based on self-correcting homework and in-class work) that you're having trouble with a concept.
I'm looking forward to an excellent year, with a lot of math and fun!
